Donovan Mcnabb and the Black Quarterback
tonight on HBO's Real Sports the show which Bryant Gumbel hosts there is a interview with Philidelphia Eagles Quarterback Donovan Mcnabb and in the Interview Mcnabb talks about the double standards of the Black Quarterback in the NFL. and for me I was like right on!! the Nfl doesn't want Black Quarterbacks or any real form of leadership to me. 80% of the players are Black but how many starting QB's are there? yeah the super bowl with TOny Dungy and lovie Smith being the first two BlackHead Coachs in the Super Bowl was Good and bad to me. Good to see two Black Men leading a team, but bad because why did it take so long for this to happen again?
Mcnabb has lead the eagles to a Super Bowl Appearence and 4 straight NFC Championship games. i mean he has accomplished so much and yet he seems to be slept on. it's only been in the past 25 and change that a Black QB even got a real chance to start in the NFL. Doug Williams never gets his fulll due for being the first African American Quarterback to Win a Super Bowl. Warren Moon dealt NFL Racism and the term NFL which i call Negroes forget Leadership is how I see alot of the NFL. Progress is slightly better but they got a long ways to go. with anything when you are Black in America you gotta be twice as good. and the prestige spot of Quarterback is no exception. I applaud Donovan Mcnabb for being real about the obvious situation because though some things have changed, there is still the good ole boy network that still moves at a snail's pace for progress. Mcnabb is a Class act and he doesn't speak out much so this speaks volumes about what he see and feels. He is a Winner and he is speaking the truth about the double standards of Football and life in general.
how many Footballl fans and kids in particular know about Broadway Joe Gilliam? James Harris? Vince Evans? the NFL Owners and GM's need to reflect society fully on the field and in places of Leadership. for the people who say well DOnovan Mcnabb needs to Win something to enhance his career well i say look at some of the QB's that Espn have hired as so called Sports NFL Experts and you can't tell me that they can hang with Mcnabb. folks are scared to talk and deal with Race in anything.
